Here’s the plot twist: he’s low-key seeking revenge against this huge, super nasty food corporation that made his family dirty.
As we watch Hyun-yi build his business from nothing, we meet his ragtag group of lovable misfits who end up working alongside him. One of my faves is the fiery female lead played by Kim Da-mi. Her sassy attitude and mad business skills are exactly what Hyun-yi needs during the hard times.
These incredibly inspiring character journeys make audiences obsessed with Itaewon Class. Despite the challenges, we see Hyun-yi and the crew face their demons head-on.
9. Romance is a Bonus Book
Hang on while I gush about the total heart-eyes cuteness of Romance is a Bonus Book! This Korean rom-com centers on a talented copywriter, played by the fabulous Lee Na-young, who’s trying to rebuild her career after a messy divorce.
Enter Lee Jong-suk as the story’s lead male: a charming editor-in-chief who decides to lend the copywriter a helping professional hand.
Even though there’s an age gap between the main characters, audiences love how their “noona romance” story plays out in refreshingly positive ways. None of that typical older woman/younger man judgment stuff is happening. Just two pros who make an awesome team…perhaps TOO awesome, if you know what I mean wink wink.
10. Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung
I usually find historical shows boring, but Rookie Historian Goo Hae-Kyung had me wanting more after episode one! Shin Se-kyung is awesome as Hae-ryung – a plucky female historian who fights to work inside the royal palace. There, she meets a handsome but complicated crown prince played by Cha Eun-woo.
Sparks fly big-time between these two headstrong cuties. Their funny bickering hides some spicy romantic tension! Wiggles eyebrows. Will all the nonstop drama bring together these star-crossed lovers? Or will Hae-Kyung uncovering hidden truths ruin her chances with the troubled prince?
With its yummy mix of humor, backstabbing court politics and steamy forbidden love moments, Rookie Historian scores an A+ as one of my favorite Korean historical rom-coms for sure!
